A Waterloo man has been arrested by the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, for leading authorities on a chase, ending when he crashed the vehicle into a bridge.


53 year old Kim Tielebein of Waterloo was taken into custody Saturday (Nov. 7) at about 11:30am. Tielebein was wanted on an active warrant for 3rd Offense Operating While Intoxicated/Drugged, Eluding Law Enforcement, Failure to Maintain Control, No Valid Drivers License, and Stop Sign Violations.

The incident began last Thursday (Nov. 5th), when a deputy tried to stop a vehicle driven by Tielebein near 150th Street and Dillon Avenue, north of Littleton. Tielebein refused to stop, and attempted to elude the officer.

The pursuit came to a halt when Tielebein crashed into a bridge guardrail on Highway 281 near Harrison Avenue, southwest of Oelwein.

Tielebein was taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
He was taken into custody after being released from the hospital.

The Buchanan County Sheriff was assisted by the Oelwein Police Department, Fairbank Police Department, and MercyOne Ambulance service.
