Fatal Bicycle Accident in City Park

An Eastern Iowa man has died in a bicycle accident in Johnson County.

It happened just before 4pm Sunday (Nov. 8) on the bike trail in the City Park in Tiffin.

An investigation determined that 49 year old Steven Towne of Tiffin, was riding a Shred Surface electric mountain bike on the bike trail near the ball diamonds, when he lost control and struck a bridge railing.

According to authorities, Towne was not wearing a helmet, and he sustained fatal injuries; he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Tiffin Fire Department, Johnson County Medical Examiner, and Johnson County Ambulance Service.
