CHARLES CITY, Iowa (AP) — A former school board candidate in northern Iowa has been given up to 10 years in prison for sexually abusing a teenage boy.

Fifty-nine-year-old Doug Lindaman, of Charles City, was sentenced Tuesday in Floyd County District Court. In April he was convicted of sexual abuse. He was accused of performing a sex act in 2011 on a 17-year-old boy without the boy's consent.

Lindaman was running for a school board spot at the time of his August arrest.

He was convicted in 1988 on two counts of lascivious acts with minors. He's not listed on Iowa Sex Abuse Registry, because his crimes occurred before the registry was created. On Tuesday the judge ordered to register for life.
