Primary elections are being held (Tuesday) across the state, narrowing candidates for the November general elections.

For the Democrats in Iowa, voters have a choice of four candidates to face Republican Senator Charles Grassley in the fall: Thomas Fiegen, Robert Hogg, Patty Judge, and Bob Krause.

For U.S. Representative in the 1st District, which covers nearly all of Northeast Iowa, Pat Murphy is facing off against Monica Vernon for the Democratic nomination.

For State Senator District 32, incumbent Brian Schoenjahn of Arlington is running unopposed.

For District 28, Jan Heikes is the only one on the Democratic side.

For State Representative District 64, another Democratic incumbent, Bruce Bearinger is also running unopposed.

In District 55, Steve McCargar faces Pat Ritter for the nomination.

For County Seats, Vicki Rowland is running for re-election onto the Fayette County Board of Supervisors.

There are no Democratic candidates for County Auditor or Sheriff.

On the Republican Party primary ballot, for the federal offices, Chuck Grassley is running for re-election for U.S. Senate.

For U.S. Representative in District 1, incumbent Rod Blum would like another term.

For State Senator, District 32, Craig Johnson is the only Republican.
In District 28, Michael Breitbach is running unopposed.

There is no Republican candidate for State Representative District 64. But for District 55 in the north half of Fayette County, Michael Bergan faces Alex Popenhagen.

For Fayette County posts, Janelle Bradley wants a seat on the Board of Supervisors, while current county auditor Lori Moellers and sheriff Marty Fisher, are looking to be re-elected.

For both Primary and General Elections, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. statewide.
