Two men were hurt in a Saturday accident involving a car and semi tractor-trailer in northeast Iowa.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, 23-year-old Merrick Johanningmeier of Decorah was taken to a Prairie du Chien, Wis., hospital for treatment of unknown injuries following the crash. Authorities said 56-year-old Michael Smith of Arlington also suffered unknown injuries, but they didn't indicate which hospital he was taken to.

Saturday's accident happened around 5:30 PM on U.S. Highway 18 near 145th St. in rural Clayton County, west of McGregor. According to a crash report, Johanningmeier's eastbound car crossed the center line and struck the side of Smith's westbound semi.

The Iowa State Patrol said Smith lost control of the rig after impact. The semi rolled and came to rest on its side, losing its cargo and diesel fuel.
