Semi Fire Forces Highway Closure In Floyd County
Floyd County Semi Fire
A semi fire forced the temporary closure of a busy northeast Iowa highway Wednesday night.
According to Floyd County sheriff's officials, a semi caught fire while traveling on U.S. Highway 218/Iowa Highway 27 near Nashua. Flames spread from the semi into a ditch, igniting the grassy embankment.
Nashua firefighters were called out to extinguish the fire. Authorities shut down the Avenue of the Saints near Midway Road while crews worked to put the fire out.
Sheriff's officials said an overheated brake drum likely caused the fire. The semi received extensive damage, but no one was injured.
