WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Black Hawk County jury has sided with a Waterloo doctor following a civil trial over whether he was responsible for brain damage suffered by an infant in 2010.

Jurors announced the verdict Thursday in the lawsuit against Dr. Mir Waziri.

Max Mixdorf sustained a brain hemorrhage after he and his twin sister were born at Allen Hospital. He suffers from cerebral palsy and will spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair and require around-the-clock supervision.

Attorneys for Max's conservator, United Bank and Trust, allege the hemorrhage was caused because he was left on a ventilator too long. Waziri's attorneys say the ventilator had nothing to do with the hemorrhage.

Attorneys for the conservator had sought a $4.9 million judgment.
