ELKADER, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa man accused of attempting to kill his mother now faces felony burglary and theft charges in addition to one count of attempted murder.

24-year-old Brandon J. Thoma of Pella is charged with first-degree burglary and second-degree theft. He will be arraigned Dec. 22 in Clayton County District Court.

Police say Thoma on broke into Theresa Thoma's home in Elkader on Nov. 10, pushed her down a flight of stairs and attempted to choke her with a shovel. He was arrested in November on a charge of attempted murder.

Clayton County Attorney Alan Heavens says he could not discuss details of the alleged burglary and theft. Online court records did not list an attorney for Thoma.
