Authorities have identified a body pulled from the Cedar River near Gilbertville on Sunday (Dec. 6, 2015).

The state medical examiner has determined that the body found by a trapper is that of missing Waterloo teenager Moe Sed, 18, said Captain Dave Mohlis of the Waterloo police department. The West High School student, originally from Burma, disappeared on the morning of Oct. 22. He was last seen near his residence on W. 4th St.

Many friends, relatives, teachers and classmates have organized several searches for Sed since his disappearance.

The Iowa State Medical Examiner performed an autopsy this week and identified Sed's body using dental records. Mohlis said further examination will be needed to determine the cause of Sed's death.

Meanwhile, Waterloo Community School District officials have been in contact with Sed's family overseas.

"The family has so appreciated the support from so many in the district and community from the time he was first reported missing until now," the district said in a statement released Thursday morning. "Our district is working with the family and refugee agencies to continue to offer our support. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family."

District officials are making counseling available for students or staff who need it. School interpreters will also offer assistance.
