Iowa Fair Queen Dethroned Over Picture; Seeks Legal Action [PHOTO]
Most girls dream of becoming a princess when they are young. Some make that come true; whether it be by marring their prince charming or even through pageant competitions.
This was the case for Maggie Begbie. After years of work and preparation, she fulfilled a dream of hers- she was named the 2022 Mills County Fair Queen.
This was Begbie’s third year running for the fair queen title says an article in KMTV. She even ran for the Junior Miss contest too. The Mills County Fair pageant circuit was a big part of her life. And her hard work paid off when she finally won the title.
But less than a week later, she was stripped of her crown.
Begbie was a bridesmaid at a wedding, and she took a photo with the other bridesmaids.
Begbie tells KMTV in an interview that that photo was misinterpreted.
In the photo, they're all drinking it. You can tell by their faces. And I was given an empty shooter bottle. No alcohol in it whatsoever. I was holding it up in the air, not even close to my face. It's quite obvious I'm not drinking in the photo.
On July 11th, an emergency meeting was called by the Mills County Fair Board of Directors after they were sent the photo of Begbie with a mini bottle of liquor. Begbie is 19 years old so the bottle would mean she was underage drinking; making her not a good role model for the kids that look up to fair royalty.
Begbie never got to tell her side of the story, so she hired a lawyer to help her reclaim her title.
The fair board told KMTVthat their fair royalty is expected to uphold certain standards.
