IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) — Police are checking for possible links between a bomb threat at Iowa City's West High School and threats phoned into school and law enforcement officials in other states.

West High was evacuated Tuesday morning after the threat was phoned in by what was described as a robotic-sounding voice, with the aid of a computer. Classes were canceled after police told school officials it would take hours to clear the building. No bomb was found.

Iowa City Police Lt. Bill Campbell says the call was similar to those received in other states Tuesday: Delaware, Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Bergen County (New Jersey) Sheriff Michael Saudino says the calls in his state apparently were routed through Bakersfield, California.
