Fire Destroys Rural Gilbertville Home

A rural Black Hawk County home was destroyed by fire over the weekend.

Firefighters were dispatched to a residential blaze in the 4600 block of South Raymond Road (County Road V-49) near Gilbertville around 3 AM on Saturday (Nov. 24, 2018).

According to Gilbertville Fire Rescue officials, there was a strong, working fire when crews arrived at the scene. They said the blaze originated in the basement, then spread quickly to other areas of the home. Authorities did not release any information on a possible cause.

Officials confirmed that all family escaped members escaped the burning structure without injury.

Gilbertville Fire Rescue officials indicated that crews were at the scene for several hours. Firefighters and paramedics from Evansdale, La Porte City and Raymond assisted at the scene.
