Wichita State won its sixth-straight game and gave the UNI Panthers their sixth consecutive loss, beating the purple and gold 80-66 at the McLeod Center Sunday afternoon (Jan. 8, 2017).

UNI's losing streak is the longest for the program since the 2000-01 season, when the Panthers lost 10-straight games under then head coach Sam Weaver. It is UNI's first 0-4 start to MVC play since the 2000-01 season when the Panthers started 0-7 in league action.

The Shockers (14-3 overall, 4-0 MVC) got 17 points from Landry Shamet and a pair of players scored double-figures off the bench in Rauno Nurger (13 points) and Conner Frankamp (11 points). The Shockers enjoyed a 38-17 scoring advantage in bench points.

The Panthers (5-10, 0-4 MVC) saw Jeremy Morgan top the scoring ledger with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor. Klint Carlson registered his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Jordan Ashton added 12 points and redshirt freshman Spencer Haldeman knocked in 10 points off the bench.

UNI led by four in the opening half after a Morgan triple gave UNI an 18-14 advantage. Wichita State then went on an 8-0 run to take a 22-18 lead with 9:49 left in the half. UNI trimmed the WSU lead to one at 33-32 with 1:37 remaining in the half, only to see the Shockers get back-to-back three-pointers from Austin Reaves and Frankamp to close the first-half scoring.

The Shockers pushed the lead to 11 at 47-36 with 16:39 left in the game. But the Panthers refused to yield and responded with an 11-2 run to trim the Shocker lead to 49-47 with 12:25 on the clock. Another Frankamp triple with 7:10 left gave the Shockers an 11-point bulge at 63-52. Wichita State would lead by as many as 18 points down the stretch and secured an 80-66 win over the Panthers.

UP NEXT: UNI will be back in action on Wednesday at 8 p.m., when the Panthers play the Bradley Braves in Peoria, Ill.
