Waterloo has joined several other northeast cities in declaring a snow emergency ahead of an approaching winter storm.

According to a press release from the city, Waterloo's snow emergency begins at 7 PM Monday and continues until 3 PM Tuesday. Snow routes are in effect for this period of time. Residents are encouraged to move their vehicles off city streets to allow crews to remove snow.

Motorists are reminded that trucks spread salt and sand. All motorists should maintain a safe distance of at least 50 feet when driving behind a snowplow.

In addition to Waterloo, snow emergencies have also be declared for the following cities:

Center Point: Tuesday (Even/Odd Parking in Effect).

Denver: From Midnight to Noon Tuesday.

Gilbertville: Currently in effect. All vehicles should be removed from city streets until snow removal operations are complete.

Hawkeye: No parking on city streets from 10 PM Monday to 6 PM Tuesday.

Hudson: Currently in effect. All vehicles should be removed from city streets until snow removal operations are complete.

Independence: From 6 PM Monday through 6 PM Tuesday (No street parking).

Janesville: From 7 PM Monday through 7 AM Tuesday

Jesup: From Noon Monday through 5 PM Tuesday (No street parking).

La Porte City: From 1 PM Monday through 5 PM Tuesday.

New Hartford: In effect now until noon Wednesday.

Oelwein: Starting at 4 PM Monday (No on-street parking).

Reinbeck: In effect now until Noon Tuesday. All vehicles must be moved off city streets.

Strawberry Point: From 6 PM Monday through Noon Tuesday.

Traer: In effect now until Noon Tuesday.

Urbana: Monday through Wednesday.

West Union: No side street parking Tuesday from 2 AM to 4 PM.
