Waterloo Man Guilty of Gun & Drug Charges

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A Waterloo man has been convicted on gun and drug charges after his June arrest in possession of crack cocaine and a pistol.

A federal jury on Wednesday found 32-year-old Marchello Rembert guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possessing crack cocaine with intent to distribute.

Rembert was arrested on an unrelated warrant June 4. Officers found 15 baggies of crack cocaine in his front pocket and a loaded pistol in his girlfriend's vehicle. Police analysis determined Rembert's fingerprint on the gun.

Authorities say Rembert was barred from handling firearms because of prior convictions.

Rembert faces up to 30 years in prison, a $1.25 million fine, $200 in special assessments, and at least three years of supervised release. He'll be sentenced at a later date.
