A Waterloo family has lost two of it's pets in a house fire.

The Waterloo Fire Department was called out at about 8:30pm Tuesday, to a home in the 300 block of Sunnyside Avenue.

The fire, which reportedly started on the stove, quickly spread. A resident tried to put out the blaze with a garden hose; she escaped without injury.

However, a dog and a pet bird were trapped inside, and died in the smoky fire. Fire crews attempted to save the dog by administering CPR, but the pet perished.

The home sustained considerable damage to the kitchen, and smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
