A Northeast Iowa boy, recovering from a stroke at a Wisconsin hospital, is showing improvement.

Chase Aeschliman of Wadena, a student at North Fayette/Valley Middle School, had felt ill after football practice on August 24th.

Doctors at Gunderson Lutheran hospital in LaCrosse, determined Chase had sustained a leak in an artery, which sent a blood clot to his brain. The clot is what caused the stroke.

Earlier reports that Chase had a concussion while playing football, were false.

Chase underwent 3 hours of surgery on August 25th, in which a portion of his skull was removed due to swelling. He had lost feeling and mobility on his right side, and wasn't able to speak.

Chase has improved enough to be taken out of intensive care, and is looking to be moved to a rehabilitation facility in Ankeny.

On a YOUCARING website, in which funds are being requested to cover medical bills, Chase's family is stressing that he did not sustain a concussion during football practice, and that this was a freak accident.
