Van is Toasted in a Hardware Parking Lot

Independence Firefighters had to be called out, when a van caught fire near a hardware store.

Just before 10am Sunday (Nov. 1), the Independence Fire Department was sent out to a vehicle fire at 901 3rd Avenue SE, which is the True Value parking lot.

Heavy smoke and flames were found coming out from the engine compartment.

The Indy fire crew put out the fire, then checked for hot spots.

No one was injured. The name of the owner or driver was not available.

The cause of the fire was not released. A dollar figure for the damages in the van was not known. The Independence Fire Department was on the scene for about 40 minutes.
