Firefighters reported that the rope was cut off the flag pole in front of the Independence Fire Station and the flags were left lying on the ground.
According to police, the damage occurred late Halloween night or early Sunday morning.
The public's help is needed to solve the crime, police said. Officials are asking downtown business owners to check their camera security system for any suspicious activity between 11 PM Saturday and 3 AM Sunday and share the video with Independence police.
