UPDATE: Victim Identified In Fatal Buchanan County Crash

Authorities have identified a north-central Iowa man as the victim in a fatal Buchanan County accident.

The Iowa State Patrol said Bailey DeVries, 22, of Hardy, was killed Tuesday when a car and semi tractor-trailer collided on U.S. Highway 20 near Independence. According to authorities, Hardy died at the scene.

The crash happened around 6:15 PM.

Officials said DeVries was driving the car eastbound. The vehicle went out of control and slid across the median, then was struck by the westbound semi. The Iowa State Patrol did not identify the semi's driver.

Several agencies responded to the crash. State troopers were assisted by Buchanan County sheriff's deputies, Iowa Department of Transportation Enforcement officers, the Independence Fire Department, and Buchanan County Ambulance Service.

The accident remains under investigation.
