Two people were injured in an overnight accident that closed a portion of Interstate 380 in Black Hawk County for about two hours.

Sheriff's officials said Colton Nichols of Jesup and Wendy Jones of Waterloo both suffered non-life-threatening injures in the two-vehicle crash. They were transported to the hospital for treatment.

The accident on I-380 happened just before midnight Friday at mile marker 66 near the Raymond-Gilbertville interchange, just east of Evansdale.

According to sheriff's officials, Nichols was driving the wrong direction in the westbound lanes. Authorities said his eastbound pick-up truck struck a car, driven by Jones. Both vehicles sustained heavy front end damage.

Sheriff's officials said the accident forced them to temporarily close the interstate. They reopened I-380 around 2 AM Saturday.
