Iowa Hawkeyes Star Guard Enters the Transfer Portal

It's that time of year. March Madness you say? That too. But this week has also been filled with the news of players entering the transfer portal. That news has now hit the Iowa men's basketball team.

Hawk Central reports that Iowa guard Tony Perkins has entered the transfer portal and will play his remaining college basketball somewhere other than Iowa City. The University of Iowa confirmed the news on Tuesday.

Perkins was a big part of some very successful Iowa teams during his four years with the Hawkeyes. He made the NCAA Tournament 3 out of 4 years, scored over 1,700 career points, and was a part of the Iowa Big Ten Tournament title team in 2022.

His senior season in Iowa City was one of his best. Hawk Central reports that Perkins averaged career-highs in points, rebounds, assists, and steals per game. He was named second-team All-Big Ten by the league's coaches. Perkins has one season of eligibility left due to COVID-19 rules.

Why did Perkins decide to leave? Iowa's ascending young point guard Brock Harding might have something to do with it. The freshman from Moline will be a big part of next year's Iowa squad.

Hawk Central reports that Perkins is the second Iowa player to hit the transfer portal. Guard Dasante Bowen, who missed much of the year with a knee injury, will also transfer out of Iowa City.
