Standoff in NE Iowa, Prompts Lockdown of 2 Elementaries
A standoff in Dubuque Tuesday afternoon, prompted the lockdown of 2 area elementary schools.
The incident started at about 2:45pm Tuesday, when 26 year old Robert Dettbarn of Dyersville was pulled over in a traffic stop in Dubuque.
Dettbarn, who had reportedly had a gun, ran from his vehicle in the area of 25th Street and Washington Street.
The standoff took place when Dettbarn was standing in a driveway at a residence on White Street. During the confrontation, 2 nearby Dubuque School district elementary schools, Fulton Elementary and Holy Ghost Elementary, were locked down as a precaution.
Dettbarn eventually surrendered 2 hours later at about 4:45pm; he was first taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, then put in jail.
Charges against Dettbarn include warrants for burglary, child endangerment, and domestic assault; other charges are pending.
Two other people in the car with Dettbarn were arrested; they are identified as the driver, Nicole White of Lancaster, Wisconsin, charged with OWI. And another passenger, Michael Sheckles of Dubuque, taken into custody for Interference with Official Acts.
