Silo Accident Kills Area Teenager

A Southwest Wisconsin teen has died in a Dubuque hospital, from injuries he sustained when his family was taking a silo apart and a piece fell, hitting him in the head.

The accident happened just before 4:30pm Friday (May 24) in Paris Township in rural Grant County Wisconsin.

Several members of a family were disassembling a concrete silo, when a large chunk of concrete fell about 50 to 60 feet, striking 15 year old John Kanagy of rural Platteville in the head.

Kanagy was taken to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque for treatment, however he died from the severe injury a couple of hours later.

The Grant County Sheriff is investigating the incident.
