
Shell Rock Man Hurt In Weekend Crash
A Shell Rock man suffered serious injuries when his pick-up truck collided with a semi in Chickasaw County over the weekend.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, 21-year-old Hunter Poppe drove the wrong direction on the U.S. Highway 63 entrance ramp from U.S. Highway 18/Iowa Highway 346 south of New Hampton. Authorities said Poppe's northbound vehicle struck the southbound semi nearly head-on.
Poppe suffered what officials described as "life-threatening injuries" in the crash. He was taken to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for treatment.
The semi driver, 58-year-old Ricky Toutges of Byron, Minn., received minor injuries.
The accident, which happened just after 7 AM Sunday, remains under investigation.
