Rain Makes Corn and Beans Grown
WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — Recent storms in northeast Iowa are dousing any concerns about insufficient moisture for crops
The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports (http://bit.ly/29DrcjW ) that northeast Iowa was more fortunate than other areas of the state.
Iowa Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey says in his weekly crop assessment that parts of south-central and southwest Iowa remain dry. Statewide, 33 percent of topsoil and 24 percent of subsoil is rated as short or very short of moisture.
Six percent of the corn crop had reached the silking stage, with 79 percent of the crop rated good to excellent.
Norb Boyle, Iowa territory manager with Servi-Tech Inc. in Ackley, says corn was making progress despite the lack of rain in some areas.
