Oelwein's industrial and economic future continues to remain positive.

Transco Railway Products is seeking voluntary annexation to the city, as a portion of the company lies just outside the city limits, on the northwest side of town.

If all entities agree, bringing Transco completely into the city would make way for new tax incentives for the company, as well as Enterprise Zone benefits. Transco is undergoing an expansion, bringing more job opportunities.

The Transco land annexation is on the regular agenda of tonight's (Monday, June 27) Oelwein City council meeting.

On the other side of town, at the industrial park on the southeast side, East Penn Manufacturing is having a groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow (Tuesday, June 28) for it's expansion in the community.

East Penn plans to expand it's lead-acid battery production, creating 350 new jobs. Work on the new plant has already started on Industrial Drive in Oelwein, but the groundbreaking will be held Tuesday at 4:30pm.

Iowa Governor Terry Branstad is also planning to attend the Tuesday afternoon ceremony.
