WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) — A nonprofit organization has decided it will no longer provide emergency shelter services, supervised apartment living and child welfare services in Waterloo.

Quakerdale Executive Director Rob Talbot said Tuesday that the facilities will close by July 1. Quakerdale is a Christian nonprofit based in New Providence.

About 20 children and 30 employees at the Waterloo facilities and a shelter in Manning will be affected. The Iowa Department of Human Services says it will help place affected youths.

Talbot says state plans to limit contract funding are one reason for the decision.

The organization hopes to use money from the sale or rental of its Waterloo property to help with other local projects, and that another organization can use the facility to provide similar services.
