New Neonatal Nutrition Program Could Improve Piglet Livability
Last week - Cargill’s animal nutrition business introduced a global nutrition program designed to help pork producers increase the life expectancy of their pigs through an advanced feeding program targeting neonatal nutrition - according to Feedstuffs. Cargill Animal Nutrition global swine technology director Brooke Humphrey says the average global piglet livability is about 82-percent - which means the mortality of young pigs is a critical challenge for producers around the world. This new program focuses on improving neonatal nutrition - as mortality during the neonatal phase can be as high as 18-percent. The program helps maximize feed intake. Initial research suggests this program can increase piglet livability as much as six-percent.
