Peacocks Host UMary In Historic Home Game [Audio]
No matter what the outcome is, the Upper Iowa Peacocks will make team history when they take the field for their home football game Thursday night (Sept. 21, 2017).
Coming off a dominating 31-14 victory at Northern State on Saturday, the Peacocks (2-1) have a short week of preparation to get ready for the program's first-ever, mid-week night game. Upper Iowa hosts the University of Mary at Harms-Eischeid Stadium in Fayette. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:07 p.m.
This week's meeting with the Marauders (0-3) is the "NSIC Thursday Night Game of the Week", which will be televised by the Midco Sports Network throughout the Upper Midwest. This is the first season that the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and MidcoSN have combined for a full slate of Thursday evening games. The network is also airing Saturday games.
Upper Iowa faces the difficult task of stopping UMary's triple-option offense. The Marauders feature the second-best rushing attack in the Northern Sun Conference, averaging 204 yards per game.
The University of Mary is 4-2 all-time against the Peacocks, who are seeking their third-straight win in the series. The teams faced each other four consecutive times from 2006-09, and also squared off in 2013. Upper Iowa won the most-recent meeting, 34-16, on Sept. 12, 2015, in Bismarck, N.D.
All season long, Upper Iowa football can be heard on AM-950 KOEL with play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi, who's in his 15th consecutive season as the "Voice of the Peacocks" and 17th overall. Chris Shaw will be joining Stasi on the broadcast this week. The pre-game show starts at 6:35 p.m.
