Nationwide Search for Elgin Sex Abuse Suspect, Ends in Arrest
An Elgin man, wanted in a nation-wide warrant for sexually abusing a minor, has been found with help from the public.
The search for 29 year old Scott Lee Czappa, formerly of Portage, Wisconsin, began in August of 2020, when the Fayette County Sheriff's Office requested help from the public to find him.
Recently, he had been living in Elgin. Czappa is accused of sexually abusing a minor female. At the time of the search, he was driving a vehicle that was painted to look like a police car. Authorities had noted that Czappa could have been headed to Wisconsin, but he was found in Ironwood, Michigan on July 20th, thanks to a tip from the public.
Czappa is charged with Sexual Abuse in the 3rd Degree.
Czappa was returned to Fayette County by Fayette County deputies. He is jailed in West Union on $10,000 cash bond.
Sheriff Marty Fisher expresses his appreciation for the public's assistance in the investigation.

A Waterloo man described by the judge as a very dangerous person has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
Twenty-eight-year-old Trenton Slickers pleaded guilty in federal court to being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to a news release from the U-S Attorney's Office Slickers admits shooting six bullets into a house occupied by children and adults. One of the bullets lodged in a couch cushion.
Before sentencing, the federal judge cited Slickers' previous convictions and called him a violent man who's likely to commit more crimes in the future.
Online records indicate Slickers has about a dozen convictions in state court over the past decade, the most recent for intimidation with a dangerous weapon.
