Winneshiek County authorities have been kept busy this past week, rescuing more people who were paddling down the Upper Iowa River.


On Tuesday (July 16) at about 3:45pm, the sheriff, along with the Decorah Fire Department, were called out to assist two women who capsized their kayak. The incident happened near the bridge at Pole Line Road and Bluffton Road, on the northwest edge of Decorah. The two were able to get out of the river, without any injuries.

And about a week ago, at about 8pm on July 12th, rescue workers responded to the report of 3 females, who became stranded on the Upper Iowa River near Freeport, while tubing. The three were able to get out of the river without any injuries. The area is just east of Decorah. The Winneshiek County sheriff was assisted by the Decorah Police Department.
