Superior, WI (KROC-AM News)- Authorities have located the body of a missing Minnesota man who apparently had fallen through the ice.

That’s according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in northwest Wisconsin. He was reported missing on Sunday. 

Authorities began searching for 78-year-old Gregory Garmer after he had not returned as scheduled.

Missing Minnesota Ice Skater Found Dead After Appearing to Fall Through Ice, Authorities Say

He had left his Duluth home to go ice skating in the area of Woodstock Bay, which is south of Bong Bridge in Superior, WI, around 1:00 on Sunday afternoon. 

The search effort began Sunday evening and continued throughout the day on Monday, officials say.

Around 7 p.m. Monday, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office reported finding Garmer deceased in an area in which he appeared to have fallen through the ice about three hours earlier. 

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office expressed condolences to Garmer’s friends and family.

The St. Louis County Rescue Squad and Minnesota State Patrol also deployed resources to assist northwest Wisconsin authorities with the search and recovery effort.
