Man Hit by Train, Charged with Trespass

Authorities have now filed charges against an Independence man, who was struck by a train while walking on railroad tracks on New Years Eve.

32 year old Chad King had been walking along railroad tracks, east of Independence, when he was hit from behind by a Canadian National Railway train at about 9:30pm on December 31st.

According to sources, King was talking with train crew members, before emergency workers arrived at the scene. He was taken to the hospital in Independence, but only suffered minor injuries.

Following an investigation by the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office, King was arrested last Thursday (Jan. 8th) on a charge of trespassing resulting in injury. The charge is a serious misdemeanor.
