Luther College In Decorah Makes College Baseball History

It has been an eventful past few years for baseball in Iowa thanks to the Field of Dreams movie site. Now, this excitement won't just be limited to the major league teams.

The 'Field of Dreams' game was in the works since 2019 and was planned to be played in the summer of 2020. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this game was pushed back a year. Fans worried that the COVID outbreak would affect how many people the MLB would put in the 8,000 seats in the new stadium.

The New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox went head to head in this once-in-a-lifetime matchup at a baseball field close to the original movie site. White Sox ended up coming out on top in the MLB's most-watched game of the season.

It has been announced that this won't be the last baseball game played on the field. Next year the MLB will bring two different teams to Iowa for another stellar game. The Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs will go toe-to-toe in this 2022 game.

It's not just the teams in the big leagues who will be playing here. It was just announced that two college teams will be having a catch here.

Two Iowa college teams are scheduled to play next year. Briar Cliff University in Sioux City actually booked the field for their 2022 season and invited Luther College to play against them, as reported by Decorah News.

Both teams will be the very first college teams to play on this iconic baseball site. Little league games have been played there before, but no collegiate sports have gone off there.

The game is expected to be played on September 16th, 2022.
