We have finally reached the month of March which means the first official day of spring is getting closer! March 20th is the spring equinox, which is traditionally marked as the start of spring for many different cultures. According to RD, the equinox is used to signify the astronomical start of spring, as opposed to the meteorological start, which would be March 1.

Meteorological seasons are grouped together by months and are based on weather/temperature shifts. No matter how you look at it, warmer temperatures are on the way. One thing you might want to consider doing in your home this spring is purifying the air circulating in each room. Out with the dry, dusty, winter air and in with new, purified air, just in time for spring.

You've likely heard of an air purifier, which is a device that gets rid of any contaminants from the air in your home/room. The easiest solution for cleaner air in your home is to purchase one of these. These devices are fantastic for anyone who may suffer from allergies, which can really begin to be annoying in the springtime, as tree pollination begins. Other than this obvious way to clean the air in your home, here are some other simple tips.

4 More Air Purifying Tips

Time to test out your green thumb! One of the best and easiest ways to impact the air quality in your house is by adding air-purifying plants. Home Warranty suggests that studies done by NASA have shown there are plants that will filter out volatile organic compounds, which are byproducts of chemical-based cleaners.

Some of the plants you could try adding to your home are; peach lilies, spider plants, snake plants, golden pothos, dragon trees, weeping figs, Chinese evergreens, English ivy, heart-leaf philodendrons, and aloes. The full list of these plants can be found at Tree Hugger.

Replace Air Filters

Replacing your furnace filter is something you should be doing throughout the year but things happen and maybe this slipped your mind over the winter months. This can be an easy thing to forget unless you see your furnace every day. Out of sight, out of mind. It happens. As the weather warms up, this is the perfect time to stop at your favorite hardware store and replace your old filter.

According to My Home Warranty, there are scenarios where dirty air filters can capture and remove more air contaminants however less air gets through them and they can get moldy over time. A moldy furnace filter can affect the air quality in your home and your family's health in a big way.

Electric Scent Diffuser/Essential Oils

It's possible your home already has essential oils but you could also add an electric scent diffuser. According to Home Warranty, commercial air fresheners can contain harmful pollutants, so if you would rather have a more natural, fresh-air atmosphere, a diffuser is the way to go. One of these along with essential oils in your home can help improve sleep, mood elevation, and illness prevention.

If you aren't into the "essential oils thing," at the very least they can help keep insects away and are safer than candles/incense.

It might be the perfect time to get rid of that carpet you hate. Hard surface floors are much easier to clean than carpets. They also contain much less trapped dirt and/or pet dander. You can also consider decorating your home with blinds instead of curtains, as blinds will attract less dust.

Prepare your home with the best air quality you can and get ready for your big spring cleaning day. I can't be the only one who's kind of looking forward to this...am I?

Strangest Rental Properties In Iowa

Here are just some of my favorite strange and cool rental properties that you can check out in Iowa!

See Inside Roseanne Barr's Eldon Mansion

Roseanne Barr was set to make a home in Iowa. She and her then-husband Tom Arnold were in the midst of building a mansion in Eldon. It was put on hold when the couple eventually split up. This left a beautiful, unfinished, and kind of spooky mansion behind.
