Eastern Iowa Snowfall Totals from Weekend Snow Storm
We all remember the doom and gloom we saw on social media. A winter storm was going to dump not mere inches, but FEET of snow across Eastern Iowa! Panic set in. Calmer voices, including yours truly, tried to remind people that this was all just hyperbole, an attempt to get clicks. Then Saturday's winter storm hit...and many areas got over a foot of snow. What can I say? A dead clock is right twice a day!
Saturday's storm was the biggest we've seen in a long time, especially during the month of November. Numerous records for snowfall were broken, and snowblowers can still be heard in neighbourhoods across the state! Here are snow totals from around the Corridor, according to KCRG
- Marion - 12 inches
- Cedar Rapids - 11 inches
- North Liberty - 9 inches
- Iowa City - 8 inches
Some of the higher snowfall totals were found in north-central Iowa, including near Cedar Falls.
- Cedar Falls - 14.5 inches
- Applington - 14.2 inches
- Aurora - 13.5 inches
- Jesup - 13.3 inches
So does this mean we're in for a record-breaking winter of snow? Possibly. Getting a foot right out of the gate is a good start. But last year, we got multiple snowstorms to start the winter season and then very little precipitation for the rest of the season. We'll have a white Christmas. Isn't that enough?
