Iowa Connected To Salmonella Outbreak
Health officials say Iowa has been added to the list of states included in a salmonella outbreak that has hospitalized more than 30 people. According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, the contaminated products include pre-cut watermelon, honeydew melon, cantaloupe and fruit salad, and salmonella cases have also been reported in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan & Ohio.
The contaminated fruit was supplied to stores including Walmart, Costco, Walgreens and Trader Joe's.
Late last week, Kellogg's issued a recall on Honey Smacks after the cereal was linked to salmonella cases in 31 states. Several Midwestern states have also been affected, though no cases have been reported in Iowa yet.
