Independence Flood Water Submerges Waterloo Driver’s Car
A Waterloo man was able to escape his car, after it became stuck in floodwaters near Independence.
At about 5pm Saturday (May 25), Buchanan County deputies were called to Three Elms Park, just southeast of Independence, on the report of a car that was stranded in the floodwater.
Eric Fishel of Waterloo was driving on Three Elms Park Road into the park, when he encountered two separate flooded areas of the road. Fishel was able to drive through the first flooded portion of the road, but his car became overwhelmed in the second portion.
Water began to fill the passenger area of his car, but Fishel was able to climb out of the car to safety. He was not injured.
Fishel's 2005 Ford Five Hundred sustained an estimated $5,000 in water damages.
The incident was covered by the Buchanan County Sheriff with assistance from Buchanan County Conservation and Independence Fire Department.
