Fugitive in Evansdale Standoff Surrenders after Tear Gas
A standoff with several law enforcement agencies in Evansdale continues to be under investigation.
The incident started at about 6am Monday when Evansdale Police received a tip about a possible wanted fugitive who may be armed, in a house in the 300 block of Norma Avenue.
Responding police looked through one of the home's windows and spotted Jason Back, sitting on a couch. Authorities had been looking for Back for about 6 months, and there were rumors that Back was armed with a weapon.
Authorities surrounded the home, and got a search warrant. The Black Hawk County TAC team was then summoned.
Back refused to exit the house, resulting in a standoff. At about 8am, officers tossed tear gas into the home; Back was arrested shortly after that.
No one was injured. The investigation continues, and charges may be pending.
