A Waucoma man has been arrested on sexual abuse and drug charges.

Fayette County sheriff's deputies took 45-year-old Russell Sims into custody Wednesday after conducting a search of his rural residence in connection with a sexual abuse investigation. He's currently in the Fayette County Jail.

Sims was charged with two counts of third-degree sexual abuse, distribution of a controlled substance to a minor, second offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Sims could be in prison for up to 45 years, if convicted on all charges.

According to sheriff's officials, the investigation is on-going and more charges could be filed in the case.

Authorities said they also called in the Iowa Department of Human Services because minors were living at the residence when deputies found the drugs. Authorities say electronic devices they seized during the search will be taken to a lab for forensic examination.

Fayette County authorities were assisted by Chickasaw County sheriff's officials.
