DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — The Dubuque City Council has repealed a section of city ordinances that banned sledding from some city parks.

The council voted last week on the motion.

On Jan. 5 the council voted to prohibit sledding, skiing and inner tubes on all but two city properties. The decision drew criticism from the public, so the council voted later in the month to allow sledding at three more public properties.

Officials had approved the restrictions out of concern the city could be liable for injured sledders. But when the council voted for the limitations, members said the limits wouldn't be necessary if state lawmakers were to pass a law protecting cities from liability. Such a law was signed by Gov. Terry Branstad on April 1.
