Peacocks Hope To Upset No. 4 Minnesota State [Audio]
The best rushing offenses in the Northern Sun Conference will square off when the Upper Iowa Peacocks host No. 4 Minnesota State-Mankato in Fayette on Saturday (Oct. 14, 2017). Kick-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Harms-Eischeid Stadium.
Combined, the squads are averaging 545 yards per game. The Mavericks' 318 yards ranks second nationally, while Upper Iowa's 227 yards on the ground is the 17th-best total right now in the NCAA.
Both teams are coming off key victories last week. Minnesota State-Mankato (6-0 overall, 2-0 NSIC South) stayed unbeaten with a 42-21 victory over Augustana (S.D.) at home, while the Peacocks (4-2, 1-1) recorded a 34-29 win over Concordia-St. Paul in Fayette.
If history is any indication, the Mavericks will be a tough opponent for Upper Iowa to conquer. Saturday's game is the 12th all-time meeting between the two teams and the Peacocks have yet to win a game in the series. Minnesota State won last year's encounter, 33-23, at Blakeslee Stadium in Mankato, Minn.
All season long, Upper Iowa football can be heard on AM-950 KOEL with play-by-play announcer Joe Stasi, who's in his 15th consecutive season as the "Voice of the Peacocks" and 17th overall. Chris Shaw will be joining Stasi on the broadcast this week. Pre-game coverage begins at 4:30 p.m.
