COVID-19 Cases Surge To 1270 In Iowa, Two More Deaths Reported
Public health officials are reporting 125 new cases of COVID-19 in Iowa, the largest one-day total since testing began on March 7.
The latest figures from the Iowa Department of Public Health released Thursday morning show 1,270 people have tested positive for the coronavirus. During her daily press briefing, Gov. Kim Reynolds said 115 Iowans remain hospitalized and 478 people – or 38-percent of those who were diagnosed with the coronavirus -- have recovered.
Black Hawk County reported two new cases, one involving an adults between the ages of 41 and 60 and one involving an adult between the ages of 18 and 40.
Among area counties, Tama reported the most new cases with 17. They included nine adults between the ages of 41 and 60, three adults between the ages of 18 and 40, three adults between the ages of 61 and 40, and two adults over the age of 81.
Three new cases were confirmed in Benton and Marshall counties. The Benton County cases involve two adults between the ages of 41 and 60 and one adult between the ages of 18 to 40. The Marshall County cases involve an adult between the ages of 61 and 80, 41 and 60, and 18 and 40.
Buchanan, Chickasaw and Winneshiek counties each reported one additional case, all three involving adults who are between the ages of 41 and 60.
During Thursday's press briefing, Reynolds announced two additional deaths. Both occurred in Linn County, involving an adult between the ages of 61 and 80, and an adult over the age of 81. The number of pandemic deaths in Iowa now stands at 29.
The virus is still present in 79 of Iowa's 99 counties. To date, 13,703 Iowans have tested negative for the virus, including 882 in the past 24 hours.
