Cargill Plant Fire, Firefighters Treated

IOWA FALLS, Iowa (AP) — Several firefighters have been treated for smoke inhalation injuries following a fire at a plant in Iowa Falls.

The Cargill Plant caught fire Wednesday night, causing thick smoke to surround the facility and slow rescue efforts. Several fire and safety crews from area departments responded to put out the fire at the grain processing plant.

Officials say they believe the fire started in a bean dryer. No one was seriously injured, but several firefighters were treated for smoke-related injuries.

Bob Hildreth, a member with the North Hardin County Rescue squad, was tasked with monitoring traffic on the highway. He says the smoke made it difficult to see just 4 feet ahead.

Nik Stephens, an employee at a neighboring business, says the smoke impaired his breathing.
