On Thursday Summit Carbon Solutions gave an update on the progress they have made to secure the land needed for its pipeline.

The Summit Pipeline is one of three proposed in the Midwest and Iowa and if completed, would connect 30 ethanol and fertilizer production facilities across Iowa, South Dakota, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Nebraska.

According to a news release, Iowa landowners have voluntarily signed easement agreements accounting for two-thirds of the company’s proposed project route in the state. In total, 1,050 landowners across 29 Iowa counties have now signed 1,840 easement agreements with the company.

Summit Carbon Solutions’ CEO Lee Blank.  Says that the progress “represents a significant step in advancing this critical investment in our infrastructure.”

In the most recent updates from Summit Carbon Solution, the project has also secured more than 50 percent of its North and South Dakota path. In early November, Summit announced that it had secured easement agreements for more than 50 percent of the project’s path.

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the carbon pipelines that are proposed through Iowa and the midwest.

Summit Carbon Solutions filed a complaint on November 15th saying that the rules passed by Shelby County on November 1st could stall the segment of the pipeline network.

This followed other lawsuits Summit filed against Story County on November 14th after an ordinance that the county passed. Back on October 25th, the Story County Board of Supervisors passed an ordinance that established setbacks and placed requirements on “hazardous materials pipelines” in the county.
