Beautiful Deer Comes to Front Door of Eastern Iowa Home [PHOTOS]
When you get notified you have a visitor, this is not what you're expecting.
Early Sunday morning, Deb McKernan of Cedar Rapids told me her doorbell camera let her know someone was at her front door. It was 5 a.m., which obviously would've been a bit concerning. It was nothing to worry about, though. Instead, Deb was getting a visit from a beautifully handsome deer. A buck.
Deb carefully lifted the shade and saw the deer enjoying an early morning meal. She quickly grabbed her phone and was lucky enough to capture the amazing photos below. Deb says he was only about three feet away when she snapped the pictures. The buck clearly must've heard her inside but acted like he realized he was about to be a star. With his nose covered in birdseed, he hung around for a couple of press photos, er pictures.
Deer are common visitors to the McKernan home, not far from the Oakland Road Hy-Vee, which is located at the corner of Oakland Road and 32nd Street NE. Typically they're a little further away, though. Deb took this picture in November when a buck was in her yard.
Deb also commonly sees female deer or does. She says, "The does are so smart they will stand at the curb before and wait until there’s no traffic coming before they cross the street." Interesting, isn't it? Just like humans, the gals are smarter than the guys.
