At approximately 11:44 pm crews responded to a call at 4400 block of Frozen Hill Rd to find a barn fully engulfed in flames. According to a release and the Linn County Sheriff’s Office, the fire then spread to a corncrib and well house.

All three buildings were a total loss.

Inside the barn that caught on fire were six goats, one dog, and one pig. None of the animals survived the fire. According to the Sherriff’s office, it is believed the fire was started by heat lamps that were inside the barn.

Crews on the scene included Linn County Deputies, Prairieburg Fire, Coggon Fire, Anamosa Fire, Central City Fire, and Anamosa Ambulance.

Another farmer saw a loss in their operation in Minnesota last week.

An Olmsted County hog producer suffered a significant loss after a fire burned down a barn housing hundreds of pigs.

The building housed 2,500 finishing pigs, all of that was lost in the fire. Looking at the owner’s preliminary damage and loss estimates were $900,000.

The fire was under investigation but there were no signs of suspicious activities. There were three other buildings on the site that were not damaged.
