A Hudson man faces burglary, theft, and other charges after Buchanan County authorities received a tip that he was walking on top of a moving train.

Deputies took 25-year-old Tylor Derifield into custody last week. Sheriff's officials said they arrested Derifield around 5 PM Wednesday (July 24, 2019) after receiving a report that a man was walking on top of an eastbound train when it passed through Independence.

Authorities were able to get the train stopped in Winthrop, but they initially could not find their suspect. A short time later, a gas station in Winthrop reported that a man entered the business and stole some items before walking back out.

Deputies finally found Derifield at a nearby lumber yard, and arrested him. Derifield is being charged with thrid-degree burglary, fifth-degree theft, trespassing and harassment of a public official.
