It must have been quite a scare for the driver of a minivan in Waterloo: coming almost face-to-face with a moving train yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon.

The driver, whose name was not available, had stopped at the railroad crossing on Hawthorne Avenue, near Highway 218, at around 1:30pm.

The van was apparently stopped on the tracks, when the driver spotted a moving Iowa Northern freight train.

The motorist put the van in reverse and started to back up, but the approaching train was too fast, and clipped the van's front driver-side bumper.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and the van sustained only a cracked bumper cover.
